UNKNOWN SOLDIERS

In December at the Cumberland River crossroads of Tennessee
Poor folks are honored who've passed on in a public ceremony
Some die from lack of health care, some freeze out in the cold
Some are murdered for being poor an' many die long before they're old

Say a prayer for the unknown soldiers, fighting an unseen war
Trying to survive amidst the lies and somehow find the door
Sometimes things just happen and we don't know the reasons why
Guess we'll understand it, in the sweet bye n' bye

Some of us mainly go through life caring about I, me and mine
While others believe in sharing and taking it one day at a time
Either way, we all struggle inside and whether we're rich or poor
There's a fight between good an' evil spread across the global floor

Say a prayer for the unknown soldiers, fighting an unseen war
Trying to survive amidst the lies and somehow find the door
Sometimes things just happen and we don't know the reasons why
Guess we'll understand it, in the sweet bye n' bye

Combat troops prepare for war, we all have conflict in our lives
But many soldiers with no uniforms battle daily just to survive

And you know, we're all unknown soldiers, fighting an unseen war
Trying to survive amidst the lies and somehow find the door
Sometimes things just happen and we don't know the reasons why
Guess we'll understand it, in the sweet bye n' bye
Guess we'll all understand it, in the sweet bye n' bye. . . bye n' bye
