STREETS OF MUSIC CITY
Writer: Richard Aberdeen ASCAP

They say, it's only a bad recession, but so many of us have lost our jobs and home
They say, there's no real reason for depression, but it's hard to feel loved wandering all alone
Outside on a cold windy winter street, it's unsafe for men and more dangerous for me
I left a good life to fight for my country and since I've been back, I hide most nights in a back alley
Snow flurries fall on streets of Music City
Country holiday carols fill the air
Crowds downtown mill around a Christmas tree
All lit up in the public square
Church bells ring and children sing
Down by the river, the colored lights are pretty
But things aren't all merry and bright on streets of Music City
The best of times for many of God's children
Are the worst of times for so many others
And now's the time for every American
To reach out and help our homeless sisters and brothers
Snow flurries fall on streets of Music City
Country holiday carols fill the air
Crowds downtown mill around a Christmas tree
All lit up in the public square
Church bells ring and children sing
Down by the river, the colored lights are pretty
But things aren't all merry and bright on streets of Music City
And, as a Broadway street band plays, “White Christmas”
Our Father in heaven must think it's such a pity
Things aren't all merry and bright, tonight on streets of Music City
