Between the Lines
Picture a tree that is all set to bloom
Flowers coming in like old friends to a crowded room
And I’ll swing in the boughs like the old poet said
And I’ll sing and play and I’ll move away
as the flowers the tree will shed (slow down up down)
Pick up your shoes they are falling apart
Your journey has ended and in ending you’ll start
To hear the wind blow cross your face you can feel
So I’ll stop and I’ll stay and the branches will sway
And together we’ll know that we’re real
Chorus
There’s a story in every line and a year in every day
While the seasons will play with the way that we see
With the best motivations we cannot be free
And the best I can do is to manage the leaves
While the passage of time takes the flowers from trees
Can you speak a little louder I can’t hear what you’re shouting down
The sound’s bouncing off and we’re bouncing around
And I read you like a novel ‘cause you speak like I know your thoughts
The middle’s a mystery of flowers and falling trees
But in the end, oh I know, you’ll reveal the plot
Chorus
There’s a story in every line and a year in every day
While the seasons will play with the way that we see
With the best motivations we cannot be free
And the best I can do is to manage the leaves
While the passage of time takes the flowers from trees
So we’ll follow the breeze as it blows through the room
And we’ll listen and breathe as our worries it soothes
And our children will fall like the leaves from a branch
We will move as they go, we will learn their new dance
So I’ll stop and I’ll stay and I’ll dance always,
and our story will take a turn far away, (lower)
And the best we will do is to manage to say,
we lived every bit of it, thanks anyway
Thanks anyway
