37 Flood
37 Flood (C)
Dennis K Duff 2014
The clouds rolled in on a January wind and the rain started pourin’ down
Faster than lighting creeks were risin’ everybody head for higher ground
When the river took the barn, the crib and all the corn Daddy finally said it’s time to leave
Hold the baby to your chest let the river have the rest mama wadin’ in water to her knees
Drop by drop the rain never stopped higher and higher up to the tree tops
Everybody lookin’ to the sky up above prayin’ Lord save us all from the 37 flood
From the Appalachian hills through the streets of Louisville to Paducah they all paid the price
The muddy water flowed from the Ohio and swallowed everything in sight
Up the steps through the door of the rich and the poor the mighty river left its mark
and to this very day the old folks say there’s even one across their heart
Drop by drop the rain never stopped higher and higher up to the tree tops
Everybody lookin’ to the sky up above prayin’ Lord save us all from the 37 flood
Drop by drop the rain never stopped higher and higher up to the tree tops
Everybody lookin’ to the sky up above prayin’ Lord save us all from the 37 flood
