If you’re into loud parties, loud rock-n-roll, and alcohol, then Smegma is the band for you. At first listen this band will sound like an upbeat ruckus, an aggressive noise tempered with light-hearted insanity and dark-comedy lyrics. To many hard rock fans, this will be enough to incite head banging mosh mixed with blurted giggles. Then you give Smegmas debut self titled album a second spin, ...ah it seems these boys are tricksters as well. "The idea is to have a fun, groovin song that people want to sing and move to, but also have complex underlying rhythms, techniques, and riffs so that savvy music fans and other musicians will stay engaged ...or maybe at least be amused" says Guitarist Jesse Lawson with a grin. Smegma snags your ear with catchy hooks. Then they enslave you once you try to decipher the code behind the overlapping ideas. Complex simplicity is the name of the game. Then all you do is give that dish a southern flavor and you get a sound dubbed "SOPO" by Smegma and their fans. SOPO having several meanings such as "Southern Punk", "So Poor" or the acronym, "Southern Organized Punk Out-cry".
Smegma are not easy to categorize, and wouldn't want it any other way. They have a knack for surprise. Smegma at times exhibit the southern groove of Pantera, Nora, or Every Time I Die, the hardcore/punk of Snot, Sick of it All, or Amen, and even some Botch and Dillengers sprinkled on for that extra spice.
If you would like a taste of Smegmas sense of hummor then look no further than the name of the band and it's songs (Left With Wood, Pinga Con Queso, Get Gorilla, More Beer, Pink Sock). While other bands whine and bitch, Smegma seem to aggressively insist that you have a good fuckin time, let loose, drink heavy, and scream at the top of your lungs. If your not having fun with Smegma you might just be a stick in the mud, which no Smegma fan is. Smegma worship their fans and always crave new, strange people to party with, which is something you'll find pop up in lyrics from time to time. (God bless all my friends for constant entertainment!-"Pinga Con Queso")
You say your getting tired of the same old metal. Smegma will provide balls to the wall rock-n-roll that will turn your frown upside-down. Just make sure there’s plenty of alcohol and no noise ordinance.
