Randy ‘Da Bones Man’ Seppala happened to be in the studio when we were recording this, so I put him to good use. (The bones are a small handheld percussion instrument
made of two shaped and polished bones. They look easy to play, but they aren’t.) This song is one of the first things recorded by Blind Blake, a sightless guitar virtuoso who nevertheless got around all over the place from about 1920 until 1934. He was way far from his home on the coast of Virginia when he made the record in 1927, and he never did get back home after that.
