This song came out of a conversation with a dear friend who was moving back to her hometown after making some enormous changes in her life. As I heard her talk about this next step in her journey, I was struck by her ability to be so brave and so vulnerable at the same time, and I wanted to honor that (“Who’ll hold my hand/Who’s going to guard the door/Who’s going to know my name/When I go back to Baltimore”).
