Wayfaring Stranger is a popular gospel song that shows up in the bluegrass repertory. The melody has deep roots in Christian music, first showing up in 1666 Germany. The song is also known as the Libby Prison Hymn, as the text as now known, was inscribed on the walls of Libby Prison in Richmond, VA by a dying Union soldier.
