Kay-Yah Ha Chickasaw
KAY-YAH HA CHICKASAW (Land of the Chickasaw)
by Dawn Anita Plumlee (BMI) & Carol Markstrom (BMI)
CHORUS
Kay-yah ha Chickasaw, we’d like to kindly thank you all
For the peaceful valley of the rippling waters
It was you who blessed us all, with your wisdom you foresaw
This land would be preserved for your sons & daughters
VERSE 1
And now it’s time to tell the story, back in Indian territory
Many moons ago, folks had a vision
For a beautiful retreat, where the mountains & prairie meet
A place to carry on family traditions
There were hardships to overcome, they met them one by one
With determination they fulfilled their mission
VERSE 2
Oh, the bitter trail of tears filled them with doubt and fear
When they were forced to leave behind their homeland
With great courage and hope, they embraced their new home
With abundant game, mineral springs and woodlands
They conquered all their fears; left behind the trail of tears
For a peaceful place that would become their good land
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Close your eyes, hear the spirit speak; feel the heartbeat,
Of a proud people who wouldn’t accept defeat
