Ah … a love song. Hopeful as a promise. This song is almost autobiographical – pretty close. I know a little about love, and I am obnoxiously lucky. The late Tim Alexander (Asleep At the Wheel) played some keys, and the accordion solo, on this song. Tim died shortly after we recorded this – before it was finished and mixed – and I knew this about it: To have any commercial appeal or chance of any singing star picking it up – if you care about that sort of thing – this song would need to go to the chorus immediately after the first verse. But then if I used the rest of the verses and three runs through the chorus, plus a solo!, it would be too long. I decided to hold the chorus until after the 2nd verse, which is a long time to wait for the chorus. But that allowed me to keep Tim’s accordion solo. You see, that was the last thing Tim (a 5 Grammy winner) ever recorded – what would you have done? And I think Blake Shelton should do the song anyway.
