Go To Girl
This is one of my most commercially mainstream songs, depending on who you ask. Even though I wasn’t consciously trying to write “a hit song” I was aware that I was adhering to the rules: It’s a song about love and feeling good; it has a catchy opening phrase; it’s peppy and danceable; it features a repeating “hook” in the chorus; it speaks in a common-man tone and verbiage; and it runs 3:29 minutes. As I’ve said to audiences at my live shows, I have written some terrific hit country songs … just, no one has ever heard of them. Right? I don’t get why Chris Young hasn’t rung me up for this one.
