Aleksi Campagne - J’apporte le gin
2. Sparklers And Gin / J’apporte le gin
This song is a celebration of exciting firsts, from family celebrations, moving to New York and an early music career in Montreal. It is also directly tied to my bilingual heritage. In the first verse, I reference my grandfather Emile’s Chapeau de paille (aka his straw hat) because of his grandfather’s song titled Mon Chapeau de Paille. In fact, I am actually the third generation of francophone singers in his family. Both my grandparents, Emile & Marguerite Campagne, advocated for the French language in their native Saskatchewan, and they both independently received l'Ordre des francophones d'Amérique. My grandfather Emile recorded his first album at the age of 77, singing traditional French songs from the songbook “La Bonne Chanson”, demonstrating his (and my) belief in the power of music to promote the French language.
