She was born in the country
In a small East Texas town
He comes from the big city
Where you can see the lights shining from all around

He was faithful and firm
She believed in letting go
They stood as one no matter what the kids had done
They never had a fight as far as anybody knows

He’s holding on to Jesus
She’s holding on to him
He gets home and turns the daily news on
Worried the world’s coming to an end
She’s got hope for what tomorrow brings
And she knows that love will always win
He’s holding on to Jesus
She’s holding on to him

They were married in 1963
And had two daughters in two years
He took the family to church on Sunday
And he drank his Falstaff beer

He’s still working for a living
He takes care of the people in this town
She’ll stand by him through thick and thin
Until they’re glory bound

He’s holding on to Jesus
She’s holding on to him
They catch a movie every Monday
And have a date night every weekend
Sixty years and they’re still together They’re still the best of friends
He’s holding on to Jesus
She’s holding on to him
