I shot a bird out of a tree
With a Daisy Gun my Grandaddy gave me
Too young to know what it meant to be free
When that bird was staring up at me

From now until the end of time
I will carry this burden of mine.

I can’t hide anything
I feel pain like I feel the rain

I found love at seventeen
I left my home for the hills of Tennessee
I thought love was a forever thing
When I traded my soul for a diamond ring

Does a broken heart ever mend?
I feel shame like I feel the wind

Blind faith
Shaken by the truth
It’s like seeing the stars
instead of the moon

I saw a sparrow sitting in a tree
My good friend reminding me to breathe
Now she’s living in my memory
Why do we die without our dignity

I guess the race is finally won
I feel love like I feel the sun

This is the cost of innocence lost
