The Last Greyhound
I made her breakfast and watched her pack
She’s leavin’ town on a one-way track
No point in askin’ why, a bird was made to fly
Eighteen years and fade to black
A one-way ticket and no way back
A cloud of dust and two red taillights
Fading out of sight

She caught the last ‘grey dog’
Leavin’ for the first time in her life
She caught the last Greyhound leavin’ town tonight

She called to say she’s doin’ fine
But that ain’t all she had in mind
Seems like all she wants to know is how are things back home
Though she’s been around the world
Deep inside is a small town girl
Everything she hoped to find was right here all the time

I got a message today
She just called to say

She caught the last ‘grey dog’
Comin’ home never felt so right
She caught the last Greyhound leavin’ town tonight

She caught the last Greyhound comin’ home tonight
