LIKE MARY
Writer: Richard Aberdeen ASCAP
Publisher: Freedom Tracks Music ASCAP
Daddy taught me to tie a rope and hammer home a nail
But Mamma believed in the kinda love that will never fail
No doubt no one can ever earn the kind of love that's free
Like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
I tried mamma's patience, she tried to be kind
An' though I rarely listened, she tried to make me mind
Lord knows I wasn't half as good as she thought I should be
But like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
Like Mary, mamma gave me some sisters and brothers
She taught us to fear God and stand up for each other
She showed us the best kinda love just comes naturally
Like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
Oh, I tried mamma's patience, she tried to be kind
An' though I rarely listened, she tried to make me mind
Lord knows I wasn't half as good as she thought I should be
But like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
Yeah, she tried hard to make us tow the line
But somehow that never quite worked for me
No doubt Lord knows I'm lucky
That the best things in life are free, free, free
I tried mamma's patience, she tried to be kind
An' though I rarely listened, she tried to make me mind
No, there's no better mamma in all of history
Like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
Like Mary was to Jesus, mamma was to me
