TOO MANY PIECES
Writer: Richard Aberdeen ASCAP
Publisher: Freedom Tracks Music ASCAP

Nursery rhymes, sand castles on the beach
It seemed good times would flow on forever
But life threw a curve ball from out of nowhere
Hitting right where our hearts were joined together

Hand in hand, strolling along the boardwalk
We stopped so our little boy could play a carnival game
As we embraced, he vanished without a trace
And now our lives will never, ever be the same

And all the wild horses and well meaning friends
Can't put all the pieces back together once again
Maybe sometimes, some things can be hard, even for Jesus
Like mending hearts that are broken in too many pieces

When I saw you today at the grocery mart
You seemed so lonely, so many years older
An empty shell of the strong man I once knew
Before the world fell around our shoulders

But who can blame you when a milk carton picture
Of our only child is such a haunting memory?
Oh, how I miss him and the times we shared together
And I so miss your heart beating next to me

And all the wild horses and well meaning friends
Can't put all the pieces back together once again
Maybe sometimes, some things can be hard, even for Jesus
Like mending hearts that are broken in too many pieces

I know God loves me and sympathizes
And on one awful day, how he must have felt
Because to lose your only son
Hurts more than all the pain in all the books on history's shelf

And all the wild horses and well meaning friends
Can't put all the pieces back together once again
And though we've tried to move on with our lives
It seems like nothing ever releases
Hearts that have long been broken in too many pieces
