Climbing up the ski hill on a warm spring day, Dan desperately tried to remember each word he heard as he crafted the song in his head. When he reached the top of the mountain, he burst into the ski patrol shack in search of paper and pencil. The song that emerged was a fictitious story of his new love, but founded on the fact that Joice hadn’t listened to John Prine and fell in love with his music after meeting Dan. Unfortunately, by the time the song was recorded Mr. Prine had left us for another world, so we never got the chance to share it with him. But we believe in the deepest recesses of our hearts that he would have enjoyed the tune — the first Dan ever wrote for Joice — as much as we do.
