Biography
Ross Phazor is a Rock Band from Boston, MA U.S.A. with three rock genre releases, "Mister Mango Man" (2009) "Ross Phazor's Greatest Hits Vol. 2" (2010) & "Songs for the People" (2011). Their 4th release "Twenty-Twelve" is due for release in 2012. Ross Phazor was created by Jeff (Jake) Harris who writes all the music and lyrics and leads the band. Ross Phazor derives their classic rock roots in to modern day music and sound.
Jake was born and raised in Boston and he was indeed BORN to ROCK as told by his Mom who says as a toddler, "Jake would sit by an old suitcase style record player and listen to stacks of Beatles albums for hours and was the easiest child to babysit ever." Jake was always mesmerized by the album covers as he listened and learned to read English via album covers as a child.
Friends and relatives of Jake's family marveled at baby Jake when he created an orchestra of pots, pans and other kitchen objects as adults who witnessed young Jake banging on pots and pans noticed defined arrangement structure, melodies and a groove and was lauded as a musical genius and composer at an early age, even when his instruments were ordinary household objects and utensils.
By age four, Jake began piano and percussion lessons and preferred to play along with pop and rock music of the time in lieu of traditional lessons of reading and playing along with sheet music. As Jake progressed through grammar school he played the recorder and trumpet all the while begging for a drum kit however his parents successfully steered young Jake away from being a drummer. Jake stuck with playing the trumpet through Junior High and High School and learned to read music however the trumpet was not his true passion as Jake still yearned to no avail to become a drummer. Jake's unbridled passion for music continued to grow and while Jake enjoyed Pop, Classical and Broadway show music...once Jake heard guitar oriented bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Who...Jake KNEW the guitar was what he would play and ROCK Music became his primary interest of music genre.
Jake bought his first used electric guitar for fifty dollars at age 15 and it was an imitation Stratocaster however the guitar did function and produce sounds. Jake did not have an electric amplifier right away so he played through his parents Hi-Fi stereo record player and quickly blew out the speakers.
Soon after, Jake picked up a cheap one-speaker amplifier for $50
and while his rig was nothing special, his passion for rock music and determination to improve as a musician persisted. Jake lived and breathed Rock and Roll. Jake jammed with various friends and joined many cover bands throughout High School. As a teenager, Jake began to compose original rock songs and taught his friends how to play his songs. After a year of jamming, writing original music and learning several cover songs. Jake's band "Ross Phazor was born and the band played gigs in the Boston area and also recorded a few of Jake's songs in a professional studio with a very limited budget during Jake's early College years.
After three years of working a regular job, going to College and gigging with his band Ross Phazor, Jake decided to join the military and serve his country and put his musical dreams on hold for a few years and finish his College degree while serving in the military. A few years turned into several years and when Jake left the military, his hunger for a music career was still omnipresent more than ever.
Jake reunited with his old friends in his old band Ross Phazor and quickly discovered despite the many years apart, their musical chemistry was still intact and better than ever. Jake wrote more new original music than ever before and Ross Phazor recorded "Mister Mango Man" in 2008 and the independently released CD received overall positive reviews and FM rock radio airplay. Ross Phazor's internet fan base increased daily and the band's music spread world-wide. "Ross Phazor's Greatest Hits Vol. 2" was the band's follow-up EP to Mister Mango Man and was released in 2010. Ross Phazor recorded their third CD "Songs for the People" was recorded in August 2009 and was released in 2011. In July 2011, Ross Phazor recorded their third CD project titled "Twenty-Twelve" and released the title cut of the same name in October 2011 and the single "Twenty-Twelve" was well-received by fans and industry professionals alike. The rest of the songs on Ross Phazor's CD "Twenty-Twelve' will be completed and the entire CD will be released in the year 2012.
Jake is currently writing new rock music material for Ross Phazor's fourth CD and plans on recording the new material in Boston in summer 2012.
