Soul of a Soldier

Where does the soul of a soldier go when he falls from his wounds in the field ?
As the battle still rages over his head, he takes his place with the dead

He has fallen in the hands of his maker, who has loved him since the time of his birth
The sun has set on the days of his service to the kingdom of God here on earth

Friends who fought by his side for so long, soon turn to see how he died
The bravest and strongest men in that band just hang their heads low and cry

His wife stares out of her window tonight, thinking of the day they first met
all the miles they have traveled and the faces they have known
feelings she'll never forget
