Massachusetts based alt rock grunge powerhouse Resin dubbed their highly anticipated indie debut Truth Be Told, so let’s dispense with the hyperbole and give it to the world straight: led by flamboyant frontman Ron Dallaire, these four brutally intense musicians have been roaring across their home region with an intensity that does the state’s other native sons Aerosmith, Godsmack and Staind proud and then some.

While expanding their following at regional hotspots like Rhode Island’s Newport Blues Café and Lupo’s in Providence, Resin has also earned their scars—and legions of fans—opening for Ratt and back in Boston for nu metal gods Taproot and Godsmack at the 17,000 seat Dunkin Donuts arena. Even as Truth Be Told is picking up steam, the band is hard at work on a second album that bassist Dave O’Brien calls “even better and edgier.”

Their live video for one of these new songs “Reach Out,” shot at their performance with Godsmack, is already up on YouTube. This ongoing thrust towards thinking ahead finds them putting the provocative lyrics to their feisty anthem “Tomorrow” in action. The track is about that desire for everything in life to be looking up, but somehow it’s not quite where you want it today. It’s always tomorrow. But while Resin looks forward to their next project and hitting the road beyond their base in 2009, their fans are locked into the power of now—Truth Be Told’s irresistible, hook filled choruses that leave an emotional imprint the guys just dare listeners to shake. These are driven by a serendipitous mix of intuitive musical talent, insane chemistry and poster boy good looks that make them hard not to stare at even as fans are rocking right along.

The crazy-coolness begins with Dallaire, who O’Brien calls “the most charismatic lead singer since David Lee Roth,” whose vocal range runs between that of Godsmack’s Sully Erna to ex-Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach. He’s honed his vocal talents by working with highly acclaimed vocal coach Mark Baxter, whose all-star clients include Steven Tyler, Scott Weiland and Johnny Rzeznik. Dallaire does most of the songwriting with Resin guitarist Pat Pacheco, whose dual six string and unique mix of influences adds fire and color to the mix.

O’Brien calls Pacheco “the most artistic person in the band, brilliant at creating memorable melodies, rhythm sections and lyrics that honestly reflect real life experiences.” A good example of this is the radio friendly “For A Reason,” where his words look at certain circumstances of life and marvel at how the things you once questioned ultimately were a necessary part of the journey. Everyone can also connect with the pain and frustration of the ballad “All My Life,” which draws from Pat’s experience getting lost in the shuffle growing up as his siblings got the attention. The “quiet guitar genius,” whose chill demeanor onstage contrasts perfectly with Dallaire’s wild energy, draws from the melodic Slash, Stone Temple Pilots guitar vibe, more melodic and thoughtful than about shredding for its own sake.

Bassist O’Brien, whose influences range from Shinedown’s Eric Bass from Shinedown to Geddy Lee, is the solid stone of the band, the guy who drives the rhythm section; before switching to bass, he played guitar in heavy metal and rock bands for 20 years. Drummer Steve Smith, who has played with Joe Perry and who is endorsed by the premier maker of Vistalite Drums, RCI International, has a long history of playing with various Boston groups.
