Thankful
Thankful

I’m thankful that I’m warm, though it’s winter cold outside.
Thankful to be in my car and not hitching a ride.
Thankful to be healthy, thankful to eat well,
some money in my pocket, some stories I can tell.

And I’m thankful for my khaki pants, they help me to fit in.
For my electric razor, so I don’t cut my chin.
For everyone who tells me that I don’t look my age.
And for whoever left behind this guitar pick on stage.

In fact, there are a lot of things that I am thankful for:
summer rains and country lanes,
small convenience stores.
And my appreciation may not seem profound,
but sometimes it’s the little things
that help our world go ‘round.

And I’m thankful for beach snack bars, thankful for ice cream.
For the feeling when I wake up at the end of a good dream.
Thankful for conductors who announce each stop by name,
so I don’t have to watch for mine when I am on the train.

So yes there are a lot of things that I am thankful for:
summer lanes and country rains,
small convenience stores.
And my appreciation may not seem profound,
but sometimes it’s the little things
that help our world go ‘round.

So I’m thankful for old buildings, I’m thankful for love songs.
Thankful for the weekend, Q-tips and toaster tongs.
Thankful though I’m balding I still have a little hair.
And for whoever invented boxer briefs—the best in underwear.

Yes, I could tell you many things that I am thankful for:
waterfalls and bowling balls,
campfires and s’mores.
And my appreciation may not seem profound,
but sometimes it’s the little things
that help our world go ‘round.

So I’m thankful for those little things
that help my world go ‘round.
