Biography

With a flawless blend of southern soul, funky Jerry Reed-style country, and old school blue collar rock, Pure Grain is the real deal. These guys and gals have created their own unique sound that will appeal to music fans of all stripes." – Adam Sheets – No Depression

A fine blend of sweet country soul, and southern hospitality, characterize the sound and good vibes from this Indiana based band. Born and raised in Greenville South Carolina, former truck driver, singer songwriter, Chris Taber holds to the tradition of southern musical storytellers as he fills his songs with passion and vivid detail that is personal, political, and universally appealing. Taber’s thought-provoking lyrics, gel with layers of acoustic and electric guitars, rolling bass lines and a dynamic mix of worldly percussion and drums described by many as “Country Funk”. “Pure Grain combines the Southern rock of The Allman Brothers Band, country side of The Marshall Tucker and Soul vibe of James Brown, which creates truly unique sound of their own.” says Vernon Tart of Puresouthernrock.com .

“Sowing Seeds”, street date June 21st 2011, was produced by DeBruler, and boasts some of the bands’ most prolific and powerful songs to date. It is also the bands most realized recording, capturing Pure Grain’s raw live energy, explosive dynamics, and rich harmonies. The CD features 10 songs (all written by Taber and the band) inspired by real life experiences and prophetic observations. Throughout “Sowing Seeds” Pure Grain moves effortlessly through a myriad of stylistic shifts and turns, as Taber’s rich soulful, and commanding vocals pull you into the middle of each and every song. Courtney D’Amico shines through on the single “Cowgirl” destined to be the bands break out hit, already buzzing around the release of the signature line-dance instructional video on Youtube. Pure Grain continues the tradition tipping their hat to their trucker brethren “Southbound” and “Bad Mother Trucker” inspired by Taber’s time spent behind the wheel of a semi truck. Love is Gone, another stand out track soaked with heart and passion that takes you back to the soulful days and groove of Etta James, Otis Redding and Wilson Picket. “Sunday Morning” touches on the band members’ southern roots, while Remember tells the tales of hard times in the band early on and reminiscing good times spent on the road.

Pure Grain’s “Sowing Seeds” is loaded full of great songs that are memorable, thought invoking, and destined to take this group from small town Indiana into the ears of America and abroad.

From southern fried rock to raw funk, country hooks, and bluesy soul, Pure Grain delivers devastating high energy live performances. "Pure Grain was the hit of the 2010 Country USA...Everyone commented on the band... The promoter and I were literally blown away!" said Thomas Guenther Festival Operations Manager Country USA, 150,000 attendees.

Debuting in 2003 with No Regrets, following up with Freedom Child in 2005, and the breakthrough 2009 release “Out of the Storm,” Pure Grain is blasting their way into the national Country rock/Americana music scene with a little help from YouTube and Sirius/XM satellite radio.

Releasing their first video in July 2009 for the “Truckin Song” had the band featured in Truckers News Magazine and interviewed on Sirius/XM Road Dog Trucking Channel, as well as booking appearances with Dave Nemo Sirius/XM, and Rob and Ryno from CMT’s Trick my Truck. All of the attention started a buzz amongst truck drivers across the country that not only hold the band in high regard, but are helping spread the word of mouth campaign racking up nearly 80,000 views of the video on YouTube.

Tour highlights from 2010 included knockout performances at Country USA and Country Fest, two of the larger outdoor country music festivals in the US, the Indiana, and Ohio State Fairs as well as regional club and festival dates, and Pure Grain sharing the stage with the likes of Hank Williams Jr, Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Michael Montgomery and others. With Out of the Storm, Pure Grain took a giant leap toward a broader national audience. “You’ll be a fan of Pure Grain too after you listen to “Truckin’ Song” - Dave Nemo Entertainment, Sirius/XM Road Dog Trucking Channel. Pure Grain returns to Country USA June 21, 2011 opening for Miranda Lambert and Eric Church kicking off a summer of performances in support of their upcoming release..
