The Christmas Cookies
THE CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Words and Music
Tom Griffith & Martha Trachtenberg

I was driving to my folk's house on a snowy Christmas Eve
To make the Christmas cookies and share some memories
I had everything we needed except the most important part
The magic of the season was missing from my heart

So I stopped into a church to say a troubled prayer
When I looked up to my surprise a little girl stood there
She said, “My name's Maria.” She smiled and tugged her dress
She said, “It's almost time for dinner. Please won't you be my guest.”

Tis the season to be giving
Tell the world the Lord is living
And give thanks for all the gifts that we receive
Tis the season to believe

When I saw the line of people all waiting to be fed
I called my folks and asked them if they'd meet me here instead
I spent all night baking santas with Maria, Mom and Dad
And you know those Christmas cookies were the best I ever had

Tis the season to be giving
Tell the world the Lord is living
And give thanks for all the gifts that we receive
Tis the season to believe
Tis the season to believe
