Right on the Borderline
Right on the Borderline by Payson Lyon

Late into Sunday, half grown and hungry
I watched while a freight train came rolling
March bit the air, frosting the stare of the sun
Let it come

Well on down the tracks and the boarded up shacks
Like a spark that was only just glowing
Something kept pulling me onto that train just to run

And maybe I should ‘ve kept going
Maybe I pulled out in time
But one thing I’ll always be knowing
I was right on the borderline

Well out on my own, a first-rate unknown
I came on a man who sold answers
I got ‘em all down, my feet left the ground and I flew
What I knew

Well I learned how to charm ‘em, sweetly disarm ‘em
Take on the fancy young dancers
Racing to live out my life in another man’s shoes

And maybe I should ‘ve kept going
Maybe I pulled out in time
One thing I’ll always be knowing
I was right on the borderline

Well outside it’s raining, The rivers are straining
Past time for you to be leaving
Well, You really got nothing but hard times to give anyone,
When it’s done

Still I never knew a woman like you
You say love’s all we got to believe in
Well I don’t know much about loving
But I’m glad you’ve come

And maybe we ought’a keep going
And maybe we’ll pull out in time
One thing we’ll always be knowing
I’ll be right on the borderline

Maybe we ought’a keep going
And maybe we’ll pull out in time
One thing we’ll always be knowing
We’re right on the border
Right on the borderline
