It's hard to do what we want all the time
It's hard to do the best we can, when we ain't got no better plan

It's hard to try to be free all the time
And you know, it's hard to take it easy all the time
It's hard to try to always do what we think we're supposed to do
Oh yeah, it's hard to do the same thing all the time

Living in a global misinformation age
In a wireless cage of worldwide soundbite rage
With so many hustlers trying to make us pay
For what don't work out in the light of day

No doubt, it's hard to be good all the time
And about as hard to be bad all the time
Seems every religion and philosophy just get in the way of being free
Oh yeah, it's hard to do the same thing all the time

You know, it's easy, easy to be cool
Free from the chains of religion rules
Society's cesspools of uptight schools
And step tools trying to keep you in line

Yeah, it's easy to take it easy, sometimes
And sometimes it's even easy to tow the line
But no matter what so-called 'experts' say, it's hard for all of us to obey
Oh yeah, it's hard to do the same thing all the time, oh, you'll likely find
You know, it's hard to do the same thing all the time, every time
