Keep on the Sunny Side
Keep on the Sunny Side (Time: 3:02)

The lyrics of Keep on the Sunny Side were authored by Ada Blenkhorn in 1899. His nephew was disabled and always asked for his wheelchair to be pushed on “sunny side” of the street. Music was then put to the words by J. Howard Entwisle.

The song remained relatively obscure until a 1928 recording of it by the Carter Family gained popularity, and became their “theme song” on radio over the years. When patriarch A.P. Carter passed away, the family’s gold record of the song was embedded into his tombstone.

My Approach to Recording Keep on the Sunny Side

The vocal was recorded at a fairly low register for me (no kidding?). I did so because one of the areas that makes this song really great is the harmonies in the chorus.

So that lower main verse approach allowed for a strong harmony vocal. The other thing was using and applying instruments that lend to the upbeat, happy main message of this song
