Paul was persuaded to record this one on his five-string banjo. Much of John Hurt’s repertoire is amenable to that. Daddy John wrote the song after receiving a letter from a man who knew the story, suggesting that he write a song around it. It turned out to be one of John Hurt’s most enduring numbers.
