Before he was Rev. Robert Wilkins, he was Tim Wilkins, Bluesman, who made this 78 for RCA in 1927. Beale Street was hoppin’ and the Bluesmen on the street were jumpin’, but something about Wilkins reined him in from the standard hilarity. This song, which is about nasty outcomes, is the template for Rev. Wilkins’s later epic, the 22 verse ‘Prodigal Son’.
