“My debut album, Notes of Life,” says Eddie Lightner, “is a culmination of having fun making music and my journey within this vibrant musical community. Recorded in the scenic surroundings of Winchester, Virginia, at the cozy Red and Murphy Henry's studio, Notes of Life is about having fun playing music. Taking the songs through the playground across the monkey bars and down the slide with my musical guide Christopher Henry leading the recording sessions.
“I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a group of incredibly talented musicians, each bringing their unique essence to the mix. Joining me on this adventure are Gina Furtado on the banjo, Malia Furtado with her enchanting fiddle, Matthew Zuckerman on Dobro, Chris Blauciak anchoring us with the upright bass, and Henry on the guitar.”
Notes of Life celebrates the musical harmony, storytelling, and the communal spirit of bluegrass, jamgrass, and folk music. Bluegrass Today premiered the advance single from Notes of Life, “What Took You So Long” Eddie says, “It’s a song I wrote about DelFest, capturing the spirit of the festival, and what Del McCoury has done for the music community.”
A Baltimore native possessing a college degree in music theory, Lightner fell in love with the mandolin watching Ronnie McCoury and Chris Thile at Bonnaroo in 2002. His passion for the mandolin then led him to Joyce Adams, the first chair of the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra, who mentored him and soon had him playing in the Orchestra. Before moving to California in 2020 when his Coast Guard officer wife was assigned to San Diego, Eddie performed with various artists, and toured as a part of the band FolkenPhunk up and down the East Coast.
