Nina Jo Smith - The Grandmother
12. “The Grandmother” (Nina Jo Smith Redwood River Music (BMI))
A requiem. French horn and violin give it a somber feel.
A song about police killing a young Black man in his grandmother’s backyard. (Sacramento, CA) It describes his grandmother witnessing the shooting. A journey into police violence against a Black man. I wrote and recorded this years ago. This is the only song on the album featuring my voice before my lungs were damaged by what was probably COVID before we knew what it was.
