The narrator plies her trade with truckers along one of California’s lesser known backroads. We might see her as a victim, but she feels like she’s the master of her domain, queen of the backroad. I grew up in a town on Highway 33. It winds through a California that is more rural than most imagine. The character sprang into my mind as I was driving a section of it. She carries her own light in her seemingly dark existence.
