Fateful Day
This song is based around a Lithuanian version, a more dissonant version, of the traditional children's round "All things shall perish from under the sky, Music alone shall last never to die!" The Portishead-tinged song then goes into a verse characterized by a jagged melodic line accompanied by music box-like bells. The chorus takes us down to quiet depths with a techno texture and drums. A compressed breakdown for the bridge leads to a searing electric guitar e-bow solo, and then echoes the beginning Lithuanian choral vocal round before the final choruses. The story is of shattered innocence, of believing in what your authority figures told you when you were young and having your world rocked when your experience tells you that the opposite is true. It's a song of disillusionment and awakening.
