Newport News Blues
Newport News Blues[b/] 2:36
Written by Shade P. Williamson (Will Shade)
Newport News Blues was recorded by Memphis Jug Band in their first sessions in 1927. Will Shade aka Sun Brimmer said he learned the tune from an older Black Songster named Tee-Wee Blackman. The song explains one of the truest forms of the Blues. Shade sings in a howling and cracking voice that he would rather go across the Atlantic to fight a war, than to be in the pains of an unrequited love.
