Memphis is my home and it has shaped and inspired me throughout my life. I was proud to live in the place they called "The Home Of The Blues" and "The Birthplace of Rock N Roll" The place they called "Soulsville USA." I was humbled to walk the same streets and visit the same places as legends and pioneers of music and culture now ubiquitous across the globe. I had the opportunity to see and to collaborate with truly great musicians who influenced entire generations and are still relevant today. I also spent a lot of time across the border in North Mississippi. I started going to Juke Joints and picnics where Hill Country Blues was being played by the surviving masters and their descendants. I was always treated like family and formed bonds with some great musicians who I had looked up to and been a fan of as a kid. I began to play with them at festivals and jams in the spirit of the originators. The vast styles that have evolved in Memphis and North Mississippi for the last century are all distinct and should never be diminished by putting them under one umbrella, but there is a fundamental and vital element that they do all share. You have to feel it to do it right. That can't be taught. Blues is intended to be medicinal, spiritual, radical, and visceral. It is meant to be just as effective to the player as it is to the listener. I know it was a powerful and sometimes emotional experience to record this album and I hope you can feel it too. Much Love, Moses
