COWBOY CHURCH

He’s got The Good Book in his saddlebags The Good News in his heart
He’s been riding fence since daylight he’ll bed down come dark
Today is Easter Sunday and everyone’s in church
He knows the Good Lord understands when a cowboy has got to work
For God is the Good Shepherd always tending to his flock
And a cowboy like a shepherd doesn’t punch a clock
He read a verse of God’s own words to start this glorious day
He may not kneel in a man-made church but there’s no better place to pray
That lonesome pine is his steeple his saddle is his pew
The mockingbird is in the choir the robin is in it too
The choir loft is made of redwood, cedar, oak, and birch
There ain’t no congregation there ain’t no denomination
The wind whispers his prayer and God is everywhere
In the cowboy church in the cowboy church
He’s always been a simple man never asked too much of life
Never rode a horse ain’t got a brand somehow that wouldn’t seem right
But a simple man with simple dreams don’t mean that he ain’t strong
He knows just what living means and he knows right from wrong
And it sure feels right to be out here underneath God’s blue sky
And to say a prayer of thanks to Him who gave His Son to die
Chorus
