The Dalton boys had heard the rumors just like everyone else
Old man Wilson had hidden treasure he was keeping to himself
They heard he made a pile of money since he left 40 years ago
Now he's come back up the mountain with bags of silver and gold
If I could get what he's got I'd be a happy man
I'd walk around with my head held high
And never be hungry again
Old man Wilson never hurt nobody he was gentle kind and wise
He helped Widow Brown pay her rent and he helped her buy supplies
When Little Billy Don took sick with the fever he drove him in to town
Sat by his bed until he felt better and the fever finally died down
If I could get what he's got I'd be a happy man
I'd walk around with my head held high
And never be hungry again
Jimmy Dalton couldn't help himself he cooked up a plan
Old man Wilson's hidden treasure's gonna make him a brand new man

Jimmy and his brothers broke in one night caught the old man unaware
They shot him dead and searched the house for the treasure they knew was there
But there was no silver and there was no gold just a worn out Bible and the picture he did hold of the woman he'd loved for forty years
She told him live by The Book and shed no more tears
If I could get what he's got I'd be a happy man
I'd walk around with my head held high
And never be hungry again
The Dalton boys got 20 to life in Wartburg Tennessee
Jimmy Dalton leads Bible Study every afternoon at three
There was no silver there was no gold like he and his brothers planned But old man Wilson's not so hidden treasure made Jimmy a brand new man
If I could get what he's got I'd be a happy man
I'd walk around with my head held high
And never be hungry again
