We’re MohaviSoul from San Diego California…… A soulful American journey of storytelling within great melodies, instrumental prowess woven with great harmonies, and blended into original Contemporary Bluegrass & Americana that will get you singing and dancing!! Our original Contemporary Bluegrass music is a passion from our soul, rooted in Folk and Americana!! We’re a 5-piece award-winning group of musicians formed in 2012 by singer-songwriters Mark Miller and Randy Hanson.
Each of the thirteen original songs on Stories and Memories by MohaviSoul tells a story inspired by real events occurring in our families, our community, our country, and the world. They relate experiences that represent our collective stories, things we don’t want to forget and things we shouldn’t forget. The songs take the listener on a journey across a variety of topics that touch on love gained, love lost, unrequited love, politics, life on the road, redemption, reconciliation, rodents on the run, fake news, Bill Monroe’s bus, and the day after too much celebration.
Ryan Finch and MohaviSoul produced Stories and Memories for MohaviSoul. The music combines traditional Bluegrass instrumentation with storytelling and songwriting wrapped in music that is familiar yet fresh. With a rich and long Bluegrass tradition and pickers of Southern California, MohaviSoul is helping write the next chapter to keep the music alive and growing with songwriting inspired by Mark Miller’s West Virginia roots and Randy Hanon’s fifth-generation California family heritage.
Our new Album is getting rave reviews, radio play, awards, and nominations too. This includes great reviews from the San Diego Troubadour, Alternate Root Magazine, and most recently from Bluegrass Unlimited (https://www.bluegrassunlimited.com/article/stories-and-memories/), that calls MohaviSoul the "Seldom Scene of the West," which is a huge compliment!! Our Song "Make It Up" on this album also won the 18th annual International Acoustic Music Awards for best Bluegrass/Country song in 2022 and the album and band also garnered two more nominations (also 2018 & 2020) for best album and band in the Country/Americana Category (no bluegrass category) by the San Diego Music Awards in 2022.
Randy Hanson on mandolin and Mark Miller on guitar lead the songwriting of our 5th MohaviSoul album of all original music. Jason Weiss, Daniel Sankey, and Orion Boucher are multi-instrumentalists with Orion a Berklee School of Music graduate. Ben Bostwick brings his jazz roots in bass playing to our Contemporary Bluegrass sound.
Formed in 2012, MohaviSoul is an award-winning group, that was the first band since Nickel Creek to be invited to the IBMA World of Bluegrass as a Showcase Artist in 2021 from Southern California where they received rave reviews. They have also received radio play worldwide and awards from their four previous album releases.
