NO REASON
Futility rings in my brain like a chime
Explosion of thought that takes over my mind
witness to life’s perpetual crimes
I search for a comrade, look for a sign
My throat choked, my words forced to mime
a physical reaction
History books under dust on my shelf
Pull them all down, looking for help
Like a motherless dog a homeless whelp
The words like a strap, the barber’s belt
I look to the voice inside myself
But still can find no traction
My heart turns dark, as the ages unfold
The tales of our heritage as it’s been sold
By the tyrants of history, blood thirsty and cold
From Caesar to Pol Pot the genocide road
And the new ones I’ve witnessed, as I grow old
Competing with their actions
is there reason, there must be,
why I’m feeling, less than free,
I’m not buying, some false distraction
Philosopher Kings create blueprints for living
Prescriptions for them with nothing else given
No transgression that can’t be forgiven
If not on this earth then some fantasy heaven
insincere voices speak out for their brethren
Self-serving in their power
No thinker in history, Aristotle to Marx
Has not been corrupted by deeds that are dark
Socrates drank the hemlock, Plato, the shark
Alexander the great at the end, he remarked
With a final vision detailed and stark
That there’s no way past the Tower
While petty bureaucrats kill what they lack
Smile at you squarely, stab your straight back
Appointments for life, political hacks
In the dark ages would put you in a rack
Today are content to steal and to sack
They’re nothing but franchised cowards
If there’s reason, for this madness
As endless streams, of tears and sadness
Drag us to, the final hours
It all goes around, the do gooder the saint
They do their own bidding there is no restraint
Attempt to cover misdeeds with war paint
Inaudible ethics grow weaker and faint
the concept of dignity, naïve and quaint
Dissolved in their corruption
the systems turned in, rotten and sour
the well intentioned destroyed by the hour
like poisoned soil killing fresh flowers
the weak, disenfranchised do nothing but cower
like genocide victims marching to showers
resigned to their destruction
to the many forced to live in squalor
behind the view of marble parlors
forced to sell their sons and daughters
mutilate themselves for dimes and quarters
seems no bottom for them to be poorer
with no realistic option
Though these vermin run wild and loose
I’m not taking their abuse
There’s every reason, to obstruct them
Syndicated fat voices behind a gold mic
Put forward false words that exploit real gripes
Sit in their underwear, smoking crack pipes
Hypocrites telling you who to hate, who to like
Never an equal to face in a fight
On a playing field that’s level
These palpable cynics words vivid as ice
Cut through my mind like some twisted vise
Leaving me empty for believing lies twice
While half the world lives on a handful of rice
being told to feel guilty by Mohammad or Christ
to submit crawl and to grovel
The goal’s always the same, the words, insincere
Love dissolves at the end of a spear
The media tells you who to love, who to fear
Today’s hero and villain tomorrow disappears
Bankers and generals march from the rear
Make war crimes and worse legal
as I look around the room
see no reason and no
