New Songs and Old Guitars (Milan Miller)
New Songs and Old Guitars

There’s new-fangled gadgets
Invented every day
Some glorified gimmicks
Other ones are built to stay
While the retro and the deco
Keep coming back again
Now they’re antique and vintage
Perfectly broken in
And I’m no different- than any other guy
I’ve got certain things- that grab my ear and catch my eye

There’s nothing that appeals to me
Like rosewood and mahogany
Rusty strings that ring and sing
Through the downbeats and bars
And words that fall from the sky
When the muse comes dropping by
Mixing melodies with memoirs
They’re birds of a feather
Nothing goes together
Like new songs- and old guitars

There’s nothing like a dreadnought
To dress up a ditty
And a double O is the way to go
For a ballad slow and pretty
An archtop brings the backbeat
As good as any drum
And a jumbo’s loud and proud
With a big wide strum
No matter the model- there’s tunes and tones for days
At least a million licks and ways to turn a phrase

There’s nothing that appeals to me
Like rosewood and mahogany
Rusty strings that ring and sing
Through the downbeats and bars
And words that fall from the sky
When the muse comes dropping by
Mixing melodies with memoirs
They’re birds of a feather
Nothing goes together
Like new songs- and old guitars

A Martin and a Gibson- and a lawsuit Takamine
When it comes to inspiration- a man can’t have too many

There’s nothing that appeals to me
Like rosewood and mahogany
Rusty strings that ring and sing
Through the downbeats and bars
And words that fall from the sky
When the muse comes dropping by
Mixing melodies with memoirs
They’re birds of a feather
Nothing goes together
Like new songs- and old guitars
