Distractions (Milan Miller)
Distractions
Moving slow and steady- sipping on a cup of joe
Instead of getting ready- I stop to watch a TV show
That caught my attention- though it wasn’t my intention
An old friend dropping by- just to say hello
No matter how I try- I can’t get up and go
Already running late- the world will have to wait
My wherewithal ain’t there at all
Until my back’s against the wall
Splitting all the fuss into fractions
Through disruptions and disarray
Diversions help to clear the way
I don’t know how I’d make it through the day
Without distractions
There’s a dog that wants a walk- a song that needs singing
Then mama calls to talk- while the doorbell is ringing
The list is never ending- of things that need tending
Sorting through the details- dancing round the deadlines
Bouncing off the guardrails- in a life filled with landmines
I cuss then I pray- I wouldn’t have it any other way
My wherewithal ain’t there at all
Until my back’s against the wall
Splitting all the fuss into fractions
Through disruptions and disarray
Diversions help to clear the way
I don’t know how I’d make it through the day
Without distractions
