Biography
Matthew Rahman is a songwriter and fretless guitarist from the Inland Empire, California. His new album Voices at the End of the World expands the cultural range of bedroom lo-fi music, using Middle Eastern and South Asian literary architecture to expose hegemonic systems of oppression.
Dr. Rahman has been featured as a headlining performer at multiple experimental music showcases, including ‘outsider music’ nights in Slab City as well as Sufi nights at Zawiya Perspective, an inclusive and open minded space for Muslim artists in the Los Angeles area.
His music blends Western and Eastern influences, mixing the layered bedroom pop of Elliott Smith and Alex G with the instrumentation of world artists such as Cheb Khaled, Gigi, and Rachid Taha.
