“Make it to Macon” – Love this song. I performed a country rock version of this live for European TV at SIR Studios in Nashville in 2020. However, the song was always meant for Bluegrass, so I brought it in for the Kentucky Bluestar project. The song was actually in the making for many years. I have done so much travel to Atlanta and other places in the Southeast. Macon was always a great spot to sleep. My wife would ask how I am doing and I would say “If I can make it to Macon, I will be OK”. Add the great Marty Slayton from George Strait on vocalsWell in true Marty fashion. Here’s your song…
"Make it to Macon" (words and music by Marty Falle)
Well I been thinkin ‘bout peaches, cornbread and strawberry wine
I wanna get home so I’m shiftin into overdrive
I ride 80,000 lbs of American Steel
Highway patrol has been hot on my heels
If I can Make it to Macon, everything will be all right
Tryin to make a livin’ doin doubles /gets real hard
I got a hillbilly band…singin’ in a redneck bar
And the white pill ain’t nearly enough
I’m gonna need somethin’ to jack me back up
If I can Make it to Macon I everything will be all right.
Hold On Big wheel!
Your just a good ole boy doing the best that you can
Hold on Big Wheel!
Take it easy brother, roll another number. The Highway’s gonna lead you to the promised land
I see rebel flags flyin’ on a farm off 75
I see smoke from the trees/ burnin’ up the Georgia Pine
Politicians got a lot to say
But the Workin’ man he don’t care anyway
If I can Make it to Macon, everything will be all right
