Biography
Marcella Detroit, aka Marcy Levy was one half of the duo Shakespear's Sister which was formed in the early 90's by Siobhan Fahey, formerly of Bananarama. Marcella cowrote and played guitar, harmonica, keyboards on the two albums, "Sacred Heart" and "Hormonally Yours" and was vocally featured on their biggest hit, "Stay". "Stay" went to number one in the UK charts in 1992 for a record breaking 8 weeks and also went gold in the US going to number 4 in the US Billboard charts. Marcy also worked with other musical greats such as Eric Clapton, co-writing one of his biggest hits, "Lay Down Sally" and several other songs including "The Core"; Sir Elton John, joining him on his "Duets for One" cd on the Motown classic, "Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing", and also toured and/or recorded with the following artists:
Bob Seger, Leon Russell, Robin Gibb, Jimmy Ruffin, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Stephen Stills, Bette Midler, Melissa Manchester, Leo Sayer, Jeffrey Osbourne, Charlie Daniels, Quarterflash
Marcy has written songs for artists like Al Jarreau, Belinda Carlysle, Chaka Khan, Charlotte Church, German artist, Joana Zimmer. And has also worked with some of the greatest producers and writers of all time:
Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler, Glyn Johns, Tom Dowd, Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer-Sager, Leiber and Stoller, Phil Collins, Jimmy Iovine, Russ Titleman, Dave Stewart, David Foster, Freddie Perrin and John Boylan.
Since Marcy's departure from Shakespear's Sister in 1994, Marcy has released a few cd's:
"Jewel" on London records, 1994, "Feeler" in 1996 thru Total/ BMG
"Dancing Madly Sideways" on her own label, Lo-fi Records in 2000; a blues [back to her roots] cd in 2006 entitled "The Upside of Being Down" on her own indie label, and most recently a new release with a UK based company called Right Recordings distributed by Nova/Universal called "The Vehicle", now available on iTunes, Amazon in the US and many digital download sites worldwide.
