Larry & Joe - Ya Volveré a la Sierra Blue Ridge
“Ya Volveré a la Sierra Blue Ridge”
Ya Volveré a la Sierra Blue Ridge is a Spanish transliteration of “Goin’ Back to the Blue Ridge Mountains,” which was written by Alton Delmore and recorded by Alton and his brother Rabon (The Delmore Brothers) in 1931.
The first version of this song that Joe ever heard was recorded by the late, great Jim Mills, one of his favorite banjo players. He shared the version with Larry, who suggested they work it up as a duo. But Joe immediately thought it ought to be in Spanish and transliterated it.
Larry first heard about the Blue Ridge Mountains on a television show back in Venezuela. He fell so in love with them that he decided, should he ever buy a parcel of land, he was going to call it “Blue Ridge.” Of course at that time, he never imagined that he would wind up living so close to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Today, they’re like his second beloved homeland.
