Larry & Joe - Arpa Banjo Merengue
“Arpa Banjo Merengue”
“Piano Merengue” is an upbeat classic by the great Dominican composer and pianist, Damirón. Larry’s mother used to play it while she and young Larry cleaned his grandmother’s floor. Larry’s job was to lay down on his back on a towel and squirm all around, polishing it. Larry & Joe worked up this version on the harp and banjo (hence, the name change) and recruited their buddy Ramón Ortíz, a top notch Dominican percussionist living in Burlington, NC to bring the flavor of his island nation. Larry laid down some tasty bass lines. And Joe even transliterated a verse to English.
