Perhaps the most famous Venezuelan waltz, there is no shortage of recordings of this piece, so Larry & Joe made sure to make their version a special one. It came into their repertoire thanks to Austin based singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez, who invited them to play it with her on a gig at Austin’s Stateside Theatre in 2023. Joe aimed to bring an air of Piazzola to his banjo arrangement, and Larry answered this with impeccable electric bass and cuatro parts. The track still needed something though, and Larry said almost dreaming, “Man, what if we ask [Latin GRAMMY-winning Salsa producer] Tony Succar to play the cajón peruano on this track?” They never expected to hear back from one of the world’s most famous Latin percussionists, but to their elated surprise, Tony said he’d be more than happy to bring some Peruvian flavor to the track. The result is sublimely Pan-American.
