Larry & Joe - Festival en Guararé
“Festival en Guararé”
This festive piece is one of Colombia’s most-cherished vallenatos. Traditionally played on the accordion, it immediately reminded Joe of Cajun fiddle music. As he arranged it for his instrument, he couldn’t help but sneak in a little Appalachian fiddle tune (“Ragtime Annie”). Larry strums the cuatro and yodels his little heart out on this one, and in true Larry & Joe fashion, the boys flex their multi-instrumental muscles: a pinch of bluegrass banjo, a bit of upright bass, a little güira. All that they lacked was some very pitch-conscious conga shredding, and that’s where their buddy Beverly Botsford comes in. You can really feel the studio about to blast off in this one.
