Larry & Joe - Golpe de Garza
“Golpe de Garza”
Larry wrote this energetic instrumental piece on the harp in homage of his homeland, the state of Monagas in eastern Venezuela. The golpe is a musical form within the llanera tradition. Garza is Spanish for “heron,” one of Monagas’s characteristic birds. Larry captured the mystifying essence of a heron in flight in this composition, inspiring Joe to arrange it for banjo. One of Larry’s former students-turned-maracas master, José Rendón is featured on this track, as is Nelson Echandía, who’s one of Venezuela’s top bassists and also Larry’s dear friends.
