Steve Madewell - Matter Of Time
Matter Of Time

He had a heart the size of Triggers’
Maybe his was a just little bit bigger
He worked all day
Lord knows he played real hard

And he drank until he got sober
Or ‘til the party was clearly over
Always left a few drunk friends
Lying out in the yard

He liked the Daddy from Cincinnati
He might have burned down one or two fatties
Putting fish on ice
Or chasing down a big old deer
By God he was here to have fun
And he would welcome anyone
To drop on by
Just stop and buy some more beer

With a gun rack in his truck
He never bitched about his luck
Always lend a hand to anyone in need
I saw him beat, but never broken,
Always chewing, always smoking
Cracking jokes about nearly anyone he’d meet

Why when he was a younger man
He was quick to take a stand
He’d never backed down
Nothing ever got in his way
But when he finished out his hand
He was nothing but the shell of a man
But he was bigger than life
And legend in his day

I got him drunk on Dover jug wine
That just happened one time
After that he added one more line
To his rhyme
Whiskey beer never fear
Beer and whiskey kinda risky
But you can’t drink anything else
With cheap red wine
Or it’ll all catch up to you
It’s just a matter of time

It’ll all catch up to you
It’s just a matter of time
